Meeting January 10th 2017, and link to Post Dispatch article

The RCC will meet on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at 4:30 pm, rescheduled from our usual first Tuesday of the month meeting date. Room 023 at the school. The district has announced that there will be additional public meetings about upcoming changes at Roosevelt and other schools. Roosevelt has been removed from the list of schools that might close due to low enrollment. Roosevelt Sports Schedules - Wrestling, Girls' Basketball, Boys' Basketball

January 2017 RCC meeting will be on January 10th

We normally meet on the first Tuesday of the month, but in January 2017 will meet on January 10th at 4:30 in Room 023 at the school. The change in date is because of the holiday. RCC Meeting Tuesday, Dec. 6th, 4:30 pm and neighborhood meetings

The next RCC meeting will be Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at 4:30 pm in Room 023 at the school. The school is located at 3230 Hartford Street. Park on the lot on the Compton side of the building, and walk around to the main front doors, go up the steps and enter through security. The meeting room is on the ground floor on the west side of the building. One big agenda item will be an update on plans for the school. RCC members will be visiting neighborhood meetings in the next month or two, seeking new folks to join us in supporting Roosevelt. We will be speaking very briefly about the RCC and Roosevelt. Reminder that we have a Roosevelt Community Council meeting on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, at 4:30 pm in Room 023 at the school. Enter through the main front doors, up the steps off Hartford Street. Parking is on the east side of the building in a lot off Compton. One of our agenda items will be how to attract new members to the RCC. Bring your calendar if you can!! A former Assistant Principal at Roosevelt High School has received an award from the St. Louis American. First 2016 Roosevelt Football Breakfast

We had our first Roosevelt HS Football Breakfast on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Here's a snapshot from the breakfast (actually, it was a lunch that was held after the game because the game was an early one at 11 am): Chef Euylan Welch of WelchOne Catering is in the white jacket serving, and one of our community volunteers is to his left, with a student volunteer to her left. The student volunteers for the day were students in the Marine Corps Junior ROTC at the school, who did a very nice job helping out, as always!! The next home football game is Saturday, Sept. 10th, 2016, a regular 1:30 pm afternoon game, with our second Football Breakfast of the year in the morning. The volunteers for the day will be members of the August Gate Church, which is located in Tower Grove East, along with a few members of the Roosevelt Community Council. Next RCC meeting is Tuesday, September 6th, 4:30 pm

The next Roosevelt Community Council meeting will be Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 at 4:30 pm in Room 023 at the school, 3230 Hartford Street. Parking is on the Compton side of the building, and you enter through the main front door up the steps, off Hartford St., through security. Agenda items will include the 1960s Rough Rider Alumni Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, the Roosevelt afterschool program, and our Football Breakfasts. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 4:30 pm. During the school year, the meetings are at the school. To be added to the email list to get meeting notices, go to the "Contact Us" page and email us with the request.

Change in RHS football game schedule

This may not be the "final final" schedule, but we wanted to go ahead and post it. We have been made aware of one change - the Sept. 3rd game with Sumner had to be cancelled. Note that admission to games is $4 per person, cash, and you enter the field at the corner of Compton and Wyoming (and Gravois). There is a concession stand that is open during the games. August RCC Meeting Moved to Thursday, August 4th at 4:30 pm, at the Five Star Senior Center

As discussed at the July meeting, we are moving the August meeting to Thursday, August 4th, at 4:30 pm. The change in the meeting date is due to election day and National Night Out.   We will meet in the board room at Five Star Senior Center, 2832 Arsenal St. Five Star is about 2 blocks east of Gravois on Arsenal, in Benton Park West. Dr. Crystal Gale, Principal, plans to attend the meeting.  Please feel free to share this info with others who might be interested in joining us!! 

Many thanks re May 29th Fundraiser

We want to sincerely thank the many businesses that donated items and funds to support our May 29th fundraiser for the 2016 Football Breakfasts. We raised just under $1,400.00 at the event, which has been forwarded to the SLPS Foundation, our fiscal sponsor. We received checks, raffle items and gift certificates from Kitchen House Coffee ,  Commerce Bank ,  Stray Dog Theatre ,  STL-Style House ,  Tower Grove Creamery ,  The Vine Restaurant ,  Guerilla Street Food ,  Tick Tock Tavern, Grove East Provisions, Shaved Duck Restaurant, Millennium Restoration & Development Corp., DeSmet Jesuit High School, Rooster Restaurant South Grand, Commerce Bank South Grand, STL-Style House, Guerrilla Street Food, and Civil Life Brewing. Also many thanks to Riley’s Irish Pub for sponsoring the event and donating a portion of the day’s bar proceeds. The RCC meets today, Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 (1st Tuesday) at 4:30 pm, at the Five Star Senior Center, 2832 Arsenal St. Here are some photos from the school's big end-of-year event, the Day of Love, which was held on May 20, 2016. Reminder - RCC Meeting Tuesday, May 3, 2016, 4:30 pm

Just a reminder that the Roosevelt Community Council will meet on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 4:30 pm in Room 023 at Roosevelt High School, 3230 Hartford Street. Parking is on the Compton side of the building; enter through the main front doors up the steps off Hartford Street. Building security can direct you to the meeting. Fundraiser Alert:  Please put Sunday, May 29th 2016 on your calendar for our 4th Annual Football Breakfast Fundraiser. This is to raise funds for our football breakfast program for the RHS football team (see entries on our blog/website for more info). The event will be held at Riley's Irish Pub, at the corner of Arsenal and Arkansas, from noon to about 7 pm. We will have brats, hot dogs and sides for sale as well as raffle items, and Riley's will be open for drinks. Set up will start at 11 am. Report on Roosevelt Conscious Choice event 4-27-2016

Photo of the three young women (center in photo) who won scholarships from UMSL yesterday afternoon through their participation in the Conscious Choice program at Roosevelt High School. Each won a scholarship for $1,500 from the university. They read their essays yesterday at a program at St. Louis University, which was held in conjunction with SLU's Trio program. Ms. Laura Craig, RHS Library Media Specialist and Coordinator of the Roosevelt afterschool program, is in a white jacket on the right side of the frame, taking a photo. The Conscious Choice program is a program for young women students at the high school to encourage postponing motherhood until after high school. Two of our regular Roosevelt Community Council members are mentors in the program, Rev. Paula Cooper of Curby Memorial Presbyterian Church in BPW and Norah Ryan. Karessa Morrow, now principal at Oak Hill Elementary School, was an Assistant Principal at Roosevelt and worked with the Roosevelt Community Council. The Op-Ed is written by Jane Donahue, Executive Director of the SLPS Foundation, a separate entity from the school district. The SLPS Foundation is the RCC's fiscal agent. The RCC's next meeting is Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 4:30 pm, in Room 023 at the school, 3230 Hartford St.  Planning for our May 29th fundraiser for the 2016 Roosevelt Football Breakfasts will be on the agenda. The fundraiser will be at Riley's Pub at the corner of Arsenal & Arkansas, starting about 12:00 noon to about 7 pm. SLPS Foundation "Ed Talk" January 12, 2016 at Roosevelt

The  St. Louis Public Schools Foundation  held one of its "Ed Talk" programs at Roosevelt High School yesterday. The program was about the alignment between Roosevelt and district transformation strategies and the recommendations of the Ferguson Commission. Excellent program and presentations.
