A report on the Urban Debate League tournament that was held at Roosevelt on Nov. 14 is pasted in below, fyi.

I have been asked how women interested in volunteering at Roosevelt can get involved with the Conscious Choice program, which is program for women students at the school to encourage them to delay motherhood. Urban Debate League Tournament 2 Recap 11-16-2015:

SLUDL Continues to Grow!

On November 14th, Roosevelt High School hosted 131 students in the league's largest event. The staff of Roosevelt High School and members of the neighborhood provided critical support, ensuring the success of our students. A very special thanks to Roosevelt's coach, Michelle Franklin, for all of her support behind the scenes prior to and during the tournament. Dr. Crystal Gale (principal), David Shanks (assistant principal), and Laura Craig (library media specialist) also deserve credit for ensuring the success of the event.

Finally, the tournament could not have been possible without the numerous hours dedicated by more than 50 community volunteers who served meals and/or served as judges throughout the tournament!

First Football Breakfast of 2015

"Football Breakfasts" means providing breakfast for the Roosevelt High School football team before its Saturday home JV and Varsity games. About 85% of the students at Roosevelt are eligible for the school's free or reduced price meal program during the school week, but there are no such meals on Saturdays. The RCC began supporting the breakfasts about 8 years ago , when Mr. Terry Houston, then principal, asked us to provide volunteers for the breakfasts. The breakfasts were his idea: they are a way to both support the team and connect the community to the school. The volunteers help set up, help serve, and clean up after the breakfasts. Currently, the RCC raises the funds for the breakfasts, hires the caterer to provide the food, and recruits the volunteers. We held a fundraiser in May at Riley's Irish Pub in Tower Grove East to raise funds for the breakfasts. The balance of the funds comes from donations. The caterer is Euylan Welch of WelchOne Catering. We al
