Reminders - Car Wash July 1st & 15th, RCC meeting July 11, 2017

Reminder about Coach Porter's car wash fundraiser this Saturday, July 1st, 9 to 1, and also on July 15th - get your car clean and help the team. This is being organized by the team's new parent booster club. It will be on the Compton side parking lot at the school, which is at the corner of Compton and Hartford.

Roosevelt Community Council meeting July 11th, 4:30 pm at Five Star Senior Center (rescheduled from 7-4-2017 due to the holiday). Five Star is at 2832 Arsenal St., about 2 blocks east of Gravois, across the street from Kutis Funeral Home.

Attached is a photo of the new weight room equipment at the school, installed. The new equipment was delivered yesterday. Other donated equipment and smaller items were installed earlier. The pic was picked up from Twitter (thank you, Coach Porter and A.D. Corrigan).

Football Breakfasts. One other item - if you are interested in volunteering at one of the Football Breakfasts, please email us via norah.ryan "at" att.net, so that we can send you a link to the district's volunteer forms. There are six dates (6 Saturday home games):  August 19, August 26, September 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30, October 14. The breakfasts are going to be earlier this year, so you can help out, be done, and be out and about earlier. Volunteer teams from the Young Life program and the August Gate Church will be helping out on several of the dates, and the Jr. ROTC cadets from the school usually assist with one or more dates as well. If you know of a church or other group that would want to send 6 to 8 volunteers on one of the Saturdays, please send us the contact info. The volunteering consists of helping to set up, serve and clean up - our caterer, Euylan Welch, does the hard part.

Fundraiser at Riley's Irish Pub - Saturday, August 23rd, 1-5pm - UPDATE

Reminder that our once-a-year fundraiser for the Roosevelt Football Breakfasts is this Saturday, 1-5 pm at Riley's Irish Pub at the SE corner of Arsenal & Arkansas. It turns out that we have a number of very nice raffle items as well as brats, hotdogs, potato salad, fruit, and drinks for purchase. If you plan to come and help, we will be setting up starting at noon, and will be wrapping up, pulling raffle item winning tickets, and cleaning up starting at about 5 or so. Let us know if you can help if you haven't already let us know. The cell # for questions is 314-241-9994.

First Football Breakfast of 2015

"Football Breakfasts" means providing breakfast for the Roosevelt High School football team before its Saturday home JV and Varsity games. About 85% of the students at Roosevelt are eligible for the school's free or reduced price meal program during the school week, but there are no such meals on Saturdays. The RCC began supporting the breakfasts about 8 years ago , when Mr. Terry Houston, then principal, asked us to provide volunteers for the breakfasts. The breakfasts were his idea: they are a way to both support the team and connect the community to the school. The volunteers help set up, help serve, and clean up after the breakfasts. Currently, the RCC raises the funds for the breakfasts, hires the caterer to provide the food, and recruits the volunteers. We held a fundraiser in May at Riley's Irish Pub in Tower Grove East to raise funds for the breakfasts. The balance of the funds comes from donations. The caterer is Euylan Welch of WelchOne Catering. We al...

Update on 2025 Roosevelt High School Football Breakfasts from the Roosevelt Community Council

Roosevelt High School’s 2025 11-Man Football season was cancelled mid-way through the season after the team’s Homecoming game on September 20, 2025. That game was rained out at half time, due to a thunder storm. As reported by the school’s Athletic Director, the team had suffered some prior injuries and also the loss of some upper class team members, and the school felt that it was unsafe to continue the season with the remaining team members, many of whom were younger and smaller players.  The Roosevelt Community Council raised funds in 2025 to provide breakfast to the team before its Saturday games. Usually, this involves feeding 40 to 50 team members and a few coaches for each breakfast. Sometimes, members of the cheerleading team are also present and invited to have breakfast as well.  This is an activity we have supported for a number of years, and it has also been supported by several nearby neighborhood associations and a number of businesses, as well as the public, at ...
