RCC meeting Tuesday, December 3, 2019, 4:30 pm

The Roosevelt Community Council will meet tomorrow, December 3, 2019 at 4:30 pm in Room 102 at the school, 3230 Hartford St. We hope to see all of you at the meeting. Parking is on the Compton side of the building, then walk around to the main entrance on the north side of the building (off Hartford), go up the steps and enter through security. If you need building access without steps, please email us in advance.   The RHS Football team had its final game of the season last Saturday in Kennett, Missouri. This is from the school's website - the 2019 Roosevelt Football Team. Roosevelt is the St. Louis Public Schools Public High League champion for the second year in a row, and is currently in the state district championship playoffs. Next game is Saturday, Nov. 16th, 1 pm, at Roosevelt, against St. Francis Borgia.

Nov. 9th 1 pm - Second post-season football game for the Rough Riders football team - at Roosevelt

The Rough Riders will play their second post-season game against Sullivan, MO, at Roosevelt at 1 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Admission is expected to be $5 cash, enter at the corner of Compton & Wyoming. There is parking on the lot on the Compton side of the building. The district's new clear-bag security policy will be in effect. We will be providing a Football Breakfast that morning, and volunteers are needed at 8:30 am. Email us for info.

Nov. 2nd 2019 first playoff game 12:00 noon at Roosevelt

Roosevelt plays Confluence at noon on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Roosevelt. Admission charge is likely $5, cash only, and enter at the gate at Compton & Wyoming. Roosevelt Community Council meeting Tuesday, Nov. 5, 4:30 pm (First Tuesday)

The Roosevelt Community Council will meet on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at 4:30 pm at the school, in Room 102. The address is 3230 Hartford Street, and there is parking on a lot on the Compton side of the building. Recent events at/involving the school will be on the agenda, among other items. December meeting:  Tuesday, December 3rd, 4:30 pm.

Roosevelt Football October 26, 2019, 2:30 pm at Roosevelt The last game of the regular football season is Saturday, Oct. 26th at 2:30 pm - Roosevelt vs. Bishop DuBuorg. The team has been going through some things (news reports available elsewhere). It would be great if the community could come out and support them at this game, with lots of folks in the stands.  It is also Senior Day. Roosevelt is in line to be the Public High League champs this year (2nd year in a row). Enter the Roosevelt football field at the corner of Compton and Wyoming, through the gate. If there is an entry charge, it may be $4 or $5 cash (last game there was no charge). The district has implemented a "clear bag" policy for football games (no purses or backpacks) and you should expect to be screened through security at the gate. October 19th game moved to Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 at 4 pm

The October 19th Roosevelt football game is rescheduled to Thursday, Oct. 17th at 4 pm at Roosevelt . Neighborhood folks are encouraged to attend the Thursday game if possible. We believe admission will be $5 cash (it might be $4 but needs to be cash), payable at the gate at the corner of Compton & Wyoming. The final game of the regular season will be Saturday, October 26th, at 2:30 pm at Roosevelt, against Bishop DuBourg. Again, admission will be $5 cash at the gate. Roosevelt Football Game & Breakfast schedule as of 10-2-2019

Tailgate canceled, meeting still on. Roosevelt Tailgate on 9-28-2019; RCC meeting 10-1-2019 (Tuesday) at 4:30 pm

WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE TAILGATED SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, 9-28, HAS BEEN CANCELED. This Saturday, Sept. 28th, was scheduled as Roosevelt's Homecoming game. The team's opponent has forfeited, but there will be a Homecoming event - a Tailgate - at the school from 11 AM until 1 PM. Coach Porter posted on Twitter: "This will serve as an opportunity for our players, school, and community to come together in fellowship. We will have food and merchandise on site." The school is located at 3230 Hartford Street, at the intersection of Compton and Hartford.   Also, we invite the community to attend our Roosevelt Community Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1st, at 4:30 pm at the school in Room 102. Several of our RCC members just attended a workshop on Racial Equity provided by the Forward Through Ferguson organization, and we will be "reporting out" about the workshop as well as our usual agenda. New Time for 9-21-2019 Game (2 pm), Admission $5 cash

The time for the September 21, 2019 game has been changed from 11 am to 2 pm, with the game still to be played at Roosevelt's football field. Admission is $5 cash, and the clear bag policy (see prior post for details) is still in effect as far as we know. Entry to the field is at the corner of Compton and Wyoming. We will post the other schedule changes in a separate post. Football Breakfast volunteers, please plan to arrive at the school at 10 am to assist the caterer prior to the 11 am breakfast/lunch. Roughriders Football game 9-21-2019 & link

Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 11 am, will be the Roughriders' 4th game of the season (third home game and third football breakfast, too). Admission is $5 cash, enter at the corner of Wyoming & Compton. Roughriders 1st 2019 "home" game & first football breakfast - Saturday, 9-7-2019

The Roughriders will have their first "home" game tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at 12:00 noon at Cleveland Naval JROTC's field (at Central HS - the old Southwest HS at Arsenal and Kingshighway). The time has been moved back one hour from the previously announced time. The game has been moved from Roosevelt to Cleveland because of construction on the Roosevelt field. The RCC will also be providing the first football breakfast of the season to the team tomorrow morning. The volunteers will be from the Tower Grove East Neighborhood.* This is the first of the breakfasts for this year, paid for from the funds raised at our annual May fundraiser at Riley's Pub. RCC Meetings August 6, Sept. 3, October 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, 2019

The Roosevelt Community Council will meet on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 4:30 pm at the Five Star Senior Center, 2832 Arsenal St. The rest of our meeting dates for the fall are:  Sept. 3, October 1, Nov. 5, and Dec. 3, 2019. All meetings will be at 4:30 pm, and these meetings will be at the school at 3230 Hartford St., in Room 102. Parking is on the Compton side of the building, then walk around to the big front doors, up the steps, through security, and several rooms to the left.

Fall 2019 Football Breakfasts

We have all but three dates for the Fall 2019 Football Breakfasts "covered" as far as volunteers. The open dates for which we still need volunteers right now are September 7, September 14 and September 28, 2019. A number of people from Benton Park West NA are interested in volunteering for one of those dates, and as soon as we hear back about a couple of requests to organizations, we will schedule the BPW volunteers and any other individuals who step forward to volunteer. The organizations that have so far committed to send volunteer teams to assist with the breakfasts, on various dates, are DeSales Community Development , Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association , Tower Grove South Neighborhood Association , and the Fox Park Neighborhood Association . RCC Meeting Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 4:30 pm

Just a reminder that the Roosevelt Community Council will meet today, Tuesday, at 4:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Five Star Senior Center, 2832 Arsenal St., in BPW. This is our regular first Tuesday of the month meeting date. Because of the holiday, this may be a short meeting.  If you have an interest in volunteering for the Football Breakfasts, which will start on Saturday, September 7, 2019, please come to the meeting or email us. We are going to need volunteers to assist.  Following meeting dates, all at 4:30 pm: August 6, September 3 (back in Room 102 at the school), October 1, November 5 and December 3.   

Thanks - Fundraiser & Preview of Fall 2019 Football Game Schedule

In addition to thanking all those who attended to support the May 26th fundraiser, we want to thank the following entities for donating raffle items and other donations:  Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association, Sugarfire Smoke House, the St. Louis Cardinals, Stray Dog Theatre, Kitchen House Coffee, STL-Style, Civil Life, Domino's, Shaved Duck, Gustine Market, AB-InBev, Gelateria, Magic Chef Mansion, FlowState, Norah's Knits, and Roosevelt High School Football Team . In addition and very importantly, we want to thank  Riley's Irish Pub at the corner of Arkansas and Arsenal in Tower Grove East, which donated both the space and made a substantial monetary donation. Proceeds of Sunday's event will support the Roosevelt Football Breakfasts . The RCC provides a hearty breakfast for the players on Saturday home game days to ensure that they have adequate nutrition. Week of May 6th, 2019  - Teacher Appreciation Week at the school. Principal Enna Dancy has received several donations (cash and in-kind) for this event, but is looking for a few more monetary donations. Lunch is usually served in the courtyard area to the south of the school. If you know of a non-profit that would like to set up an information table during the lunch event, let us know so we can get you more information. It will be at  Rileys' Pub at the corner of Arsenal and Arkansas in Tower Grove East. We will be grilling brats and hotdogs (and some sort of veggie option), and will have side dishes. Eat in or carry out, and Rileys' bar will be open. Raffle items too. 

April 2, 2019 RCC meeting, 4:30 pm, and May 26, 2019 fundraiser

The Roosevelt Community Council will meet tomorrow, April 2nd, 2019, at 4:30 pm in Room 102 at the school. Ms. Enna Dancy, Principal of Roosevelt, will be at the meeting to give an update. We will also be talking about our May 26th, 2019 fundraiser for the Football Breakfasts, noon to about 6 pm at Riley's Pub in Tower Grove East.  The room where we meet is located on the main level of the building, up the main front stairs off Hartford Street. The address is 3230 Hartford. Parking is on the east side of the building off Compton, and there is a building entrance next to the parking lot, just to the north. We are making arrangements to have access to a lift and an elevator to assist anyone who might have difficulty with the stairs in the building. If you arrive at the building and have trouble with entering or want to avoid the big front steps, call 314-241-9994 for assistance.

SLPS-Specific College Scholarships have been updated

The St. Louis Graduates page with the application for SLPS-specific scholarships has been updated. Link here:   stlouisgraduates page    There are many more scholarships listed on the website, too. The application is on-line on the website. The RCC's scholarship is listed on the page. The amount being offered this year to a graduating senior who has been actively involved in sports at Roosevelt is $4000. Counselors at the school have more information about the requirements and application process, and several RCC members will be visiting Roosevelt to meet with eligible students. The RCC will meet on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 4:30 pm in Room 102 at the school. Enter through the main front door, up the steps off Hartford. Parking is on the lot on the Compton Ave. side of the building. We have updated our RCC Scholarship page with information on the college scholarship we support. Here's a short description: 1960s Rough Rider Scholar-Athlete Scholarship $4,000, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school. Must be an active participant in organized sports at Roosevelt High School. GPA: 2.5 or above.
