New Roosevelt Holiday Blend 8 oz. pkgs - just in time for the holidays

We have a new item available for the holidays - Roosevelt Holiday Blend 2013. This coffee is in an 8 ounce (1/2 pound) bag, and is whole bean coffee with a special holiday aroma of Rum, Pecan, and Maple. The bags are $7.00 each ($7.71 with sales tax), and all profits will benefit the Roosevelt High School Football Breakfasts in 2014 (we are getting a head start). Here's a photo of the coffee " in situ" at LaMancha Coffeehouse , 2700 North 14th Street, across the street from Crown Candy Kitchen at North 14th and St. Louis Avenue - the larger bag in the back is the original "Roosevelt Breakfast Blend" 1 lb. package. LaMancha has some other nice gift items also.

RHS Looking for Women from the Community to Serve As Mentors

Roosevelt will be sponsoring the "Conscious Choice" program at the school again this year. The program is for child-free female students at the school (grades 9-12), and is designed to encourage the participants to delay parenthood, stay in school and succeed academically and professionally. The program offers a scholarship to UMSL to one senior student per year, based upon an essay contest. Mentors would commit to volunteering approximately 2 hours per month, and would need to complete and submit the district's background screening forms and an application (neither is time-consuming to complete). Go to the "Contact Us" page and send an email if you would like to get a copy of the forms.

The Roosevelt Community Council will meet at the school on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013, at 4:30 pm at the school. Here are some photos from touring the building on August 13, 2013. Photos courtesy of Jim Bennett, Roosevelt Alumni Association. Jim reports as follows about the renovations: Attached  a few pictures of renovated areas. The floors have new vinyl, walls new paint, stairs repaired and the front stone steps repaired with restored banisters, interior stairs and banisters have been repaired. Windows have been replaced. We did not see the library but it saw a major change fifteen years ago. Last renovation to the building was over ten million dollars. Original cost for the building in 1923 was about $250,000. Those were depression dollars when brick layers were paid one cent a brick.
